Study Tours

Throughout the year Alexandra Hills State High School participates in cross-cultural exchanges with schools from overseas. Schools from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China have been involved in study tours of up to two weeks in duration.

Visiting students are matched with an Aussie buddy who shows them around the school, participates in various cultural activities and shows them what it is like to be a High School student in South East Queensland. In the past visitors have participated in cultural activities such as bush dancing, making ANZAC biscuits, boomerang painting and playing various Australian sports. We also provide a dedicated ESL Teacher so that students can be actively working on improving their English in a friendly and encouraging environment.

If you are interested in booking a study tour with us or would like to know how we can design a study tour specific to your needs, please contact us.

March 2014

On Monday 17th of March the Alexandra Hills State High School community hosted
a study tour for Teachers and students from Josho Keiko Gakuen High School located in Osaka, Japan.  The 90 visitors traveled to the Redlands to have first hand experiences with Australian culture and to learn what it is like to study in a Queensland school.

Alexandra Hills State High School students from Year 7 to Year 12 volunteered to be buddies for the day and joined our guests participating in Art, Dance and Sport workshops. There was also a very interesting presentation by a member of the local Indigenous community who exposed the students to various aspects of Aboriginal culture. The day concluded with a bush dance activity that included an impressive 160 staff and students all dancing in unison.

Study Tours are a great way for our students to connect with students from overseas, share our culture with others and learn something new about other countries. The International Student Program team would like to thank all staff and buddies involved in the day for their energy and enthusiasm.

So far this year Alexandra Hills State High School has hosted study tours from China and Japan. Over the coming months we look forward to receiving more schools from Tokyo, Niigata and Osaka.
